+ New Gawad Kalinga Site: Bacjawan Sur

Today is the official start of our electrification project. Our goal is to perform electrification for 25 houses in approximately 20 days. We were separated into 3 groups, led by Chee Hoe, Kuri and Xiao He.

We arrived at the new Gawad Kalinga Site: Bacjawan Sur, which was built on land donated by the Central Bank of the Malta Group. The village, when completed, will house 75 units. At present, 43 of such houses have been completed. Due to time and logistical constraints, we will only be able to perform electrification on 15 houses.

We found out from the beneficiaries the importance of our electrification project. For instance, their children will be able to study at night, instead of having to sleep after it turns dark. The sick and disabled will also now be able to move around the house with more ease with the newly installed lightings.

This was the first time for majority of the participants to do electrification. Due to the lack of experience, we only managed to complete electrification for three houses for the day. As the wise adage goes “practice makes perfect”, we believe that we will be able to speed up the progress!

For the debriefing at night, we discussed about our electrification work and learning experience as well as our plan for tomorrow.
